As the world needs to move towards a low carbon future, we will discuss the need to rethink the way energy is produced and consumed, through increased electrification of our economies and decarbonization of the power production, but also through the use of low carbon fuels such as hydrogen. Clean hydrogen can be produced by various sources of low carbon electricity – and we will focus our talk on the potential of nuclear energy to power the contribution of hydrogen to this transition. More than 150 years ago, French science fiction writer Jules Verne imagined a future with the rise of electricity and the use of hydrogen as an energy vector to substitute fossil fuel. The need for urgent climate action is now accelerating the rate of electrification, with hydrogen as a potential key enabler of the overall decarbonization.
